You have a right as a taxpayer to ASK for an installment contract to pay off your IRS debt. The moment you ASK for an installment contract the IRS MUST place collections on HOLD. Be prepared to eFax the form 9465 entitled “Installment Agreement Request”.  Just complete the form with your proposed monthly payment and submit it to an ACS (Automated Collection Service) representative or a Revenue Officer assigned to your case.

Next, ask for the IRS representative’s contact information: Name, IRS#, fax number, and address so you can send a letter via e-fax reflecting the terms of your agreement with the IRS to the representative. The letter should be signed and dated, and a copy retained by you. All correspondence by regular mail to the IRS should have a tracking number for proof of delivery.

If the IRS asks you to submit financial information on a form (with 433f or 4233A) with supporting documents such as paystubs, bank statements, etc., then ask for at least 60 days. In other words, ASK the IRS to place a hold on collection for 60 days providing you with time to gather the supporting documents and complete the 433F or 433A and submit for approval.

If you have any problem putting collections on hold, just call me at 877-829-5267 or email at jsterbick@sterbick.com.
